Before the assembly elections in Himachal, there was a big political upheaval on Wednesday. Two Congress MLAs joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kangra MLA Pawan Kajal and Nalagarh MLA Lakhwinder Rana have joined BJP. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur got the membership of the party to both the MLAs at the BJP’s Delhi office.

This is being seen as a big setback for the Congress. Especially Pawan Kajal’s departure is shocking news for Congress because two-time MLA Pawan Kajal is seen as a big leader of the OBC community. His joining the BJP in Kangra district can change the political equations here because it is the Kangra district that decides to whom to give the key to the power of Himachal. However, the Congress has made Chandra Kumar as the working president to keep its hold on the OBC vote.
On the other hand, Lakhwinder Rana, a two-time MLA from Nalagarh Vidhan Sabha of Solan district, has also left the party after serving the Congress for 17 years. After taking membership of BJP, Pawan Kajal said that he has made this change by respecting the sentiments of the people of Kangra assembly constituency.

Congress surrounded by familyism, so left the party: Rana
Lakhwinder Rana said that the Congress party is surrounded by familyism in the country and the state. He said that the common man in the Congress never gets the opportunity to become the president of the country and the state. In view of the dedication of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Jagat Prakash Nadda towards the country, he has decided to leave the party.

All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi had made Pawan Kajal the working president of Himachal Congress in May this year itself. He was removed from the post by the Congress last evening amid speculations that he would join the BJP. Similarly, Lakhwinder Rana has also been the Vice President of the State Congress.
