Haryana Backward Classes Commission Chairman Retired Justice Darshan Singh held a public hearing on Friday at the Hooda Convention Center, Sector 12, regarding reservation for backward classes in Panchayati Raj Institutions. Hundreds of representatives belonging to backward castes participated in this public hearing. People gave detailed information about the condition and circumstances of the society in front of the commission and also gave memorandums. The representatives demanded from the commission that according to the population of the backward classes in the state, they should participate in Panchayati Raj institutions. The commission should take this seriously and put pressure on the government to implement it. In this public hearing, besides representatives of Faridabad, Palwal, Nuh, district administration officials of the three districts and Nuh MLA Aftab Alam were also present.

Dr. Daya Kishan Gadaria resident of Sagarpur Ballabgarh, Ramphal Jangra from Sector 87 Indira Complex, Suresh Verma from Tigaon, RC Gola Advocate from Asawati, Palwal, Hariram Panchal from Rajiv Colony Ballabhgarh, Fakruddin from Bisru village in Nuh, Mangalsen Prajapati from Jawahar Colony NIT , Durgpal from Bhagat Singh Colony Ballabgarh, Charan Singh Baghel from Manpur in Palwal, Joginder Singh from Mohana etc. told the commission that the population of their society in the state is more than 70 percent. But due to the apathy of the governments, their representation in Panchayati Raj Institutions is negligible. Even after 75 years of independence, our society has not been able to get the authority that we deserve. He demanded that the government should reserve seats for the backward classes in the Panchayati Raj Institutions, municipal bodies and assembly elections as well. He demanded to ensure the share by conducting census on the basis of population.

Nuh MLA Aftab Alam demanded from the commission that caste census of backward society should be conducted. Along with this, by running a special drive, the government should recruit for the backwards on the vacant posts in various departments. At the same time, he should increase the criteria of creamy layer of backward classes to 10 lakh rupees.

The commission’s chairman Justice Darshan Singh said that after conducting public hearings across the state, the report would be prepared and submitted to the government. The commission will take an appropriate decision in the matter of giving reservation to the backward classes. On this occasion, Member Secretary of the Commission Mukul Kumar IAS, Member Shyamlal Jangra, DC Palwal Krishna Kumar, ADC Nuh Subita Dhaka and other officers were present.
