A day after recovering the body of a 40-year-old man, a resident of village Dhamot Kalan of Payal village in Ludhiana, Punjab, Payal police have arrested two accused in connection with the murder. According to the police, after a sudden brawl, the accused thrashed the man to death with a stick.

The police also came to know about the old enmity between the victim and the accused. The accused have been identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Bablu and Jagdeep Singh, residents of village Dhamot Kalan. The attackers are 20 years old. The accused have confessed their crime.

DSP Payal Harsimran Singh said that the accused are addicted to drugs. On August 16, when the victim Jagdev Singh alias Kala was working in his field, the accused reached there to pluck cannabis leaves.

Jagdev Singh chased them away and also accused them of stealing wires and other items from the tubewell room. The DSP said that the accused had a dispute with Jagdev Singh. During this, the accused killed him with a stick. The accused carried the body 100 meters on the back and threw it in the canal.

On August 17, the victim’s brother Dalwinder Singh lodged a complaint that his brother had been kidnapped. He told that his brother had gone to the field to get fodder for the cattle. When he did not return till evening, he went to the field to meet him.

He was surprised to see the blood stains on the chilli plant. When they checked, they found Jagdev Singh’s bike, a chappal and mobile phone in the fields, but Jagdev was not there. She suspected that someone had kidnapped her brother, following which Payal police registered a case under IPC section 364 and started investigation.

Apart from this, he said that on Friday, the victim’s body was taken out from the canal near village Zarag, after which the police registered a case and added sections 302, 34 and 120-B of IPC. On Friday, the police arrested the accused.

Police Sub-Inspector Amrik Singh said that the accused Lovepreet Singh alias Bablu is already facing trial in several cases including drug smuggling and illegal arms possession. He came out of jail two months ago.
