Noticing excessive hair fall during the rains? Here’s how you can treat it

Monsoon is not just about muddy roads, bad traffic and sticky skin but also unexplained and sudden hair fall. Do you ever wonder what suddenly went wrong to cause this excessive hair fall?

The main culprit here are humidity and moisture in air which causes increased sebum production, the scalp gets greasy and flaky and hair becomes dry, rough and brittle. Getting drenched during this season is also no surprise and the rain water, which is acidic, polluted and hence harmful lead to hair damage, frizz and dandruff.

The dampness also increases the risk of bacterial and fungal infections. We all have a love-hate relationship with monsoons as sure, we love it when the sky is wet and gloomy but when it comes to our hair, it’s a different story altogether!

Yup, we are referring to excessive hair fall which is one of the most common hair problems we face during the rainy season. Good news! You can combat hair fall with extra TLC during monsoons and we’re telling you exactly how.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dhruv Madhok, Co-Founder of Arata, suggested the following hair care tips to treat excessive hair fall during the rains:

1. Oiling is a must – Did you know that lack of oiling can result in hair fall, especially during the rainy seasons? So make sure you apply hair oil at least once a week. A hot oil massage is highly recommended as it also helps boost hair growth.

Pro tip – Before your champi sesh, make sure that your hair is detangled, otherwise, you may end up with broken hair knots and increased breakage.

2. Air dry your hair – Give your heating and hair styling tools a break and let your hair dry naturally. Avoid combing wet hair to minimize hair breakage.

Pro tip – To ensure that your hair dries quickly and feels smooth after, use a dry T-shirt to dry it properly. It also helps reduce hair damage!

3. Change your shampoo – Toss out your regular shampoos and switch to a gentle shampoo instead. Do not use more than the amount of a pea (unless you have rocking Rapunzel-approved locks) and mix it with water before directly putting it on your scalp.

Pro tip – Make sure you use a moisturizing conditioner or a hair mask post-shampoo to reduce hair damage and combat hair fall.
