In the meeting of the NSA of SCO countries, India said, ‘the fight against terrorism should be stronger’

Tashkent SCO NSA Meeting: India’s Deputy NSA Vikram Misri participated in the NSA meeting of SCO countries held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. During this, he called for combating terrorism, financing of terrorism, international organized crime, stopping illegal drug trafficking and strengthening information security. At the same time, he emphasized on the humanitarian aid being given by India to the Afghan people.

The SCO NSA meeting focused on Afghanistan, Eurasian connectivity and counter-terrorism measures. Apart from this, in the meeting of SCO countries’ interior ministers held in Tashkent on Thursday, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai had called for strict action against terrorism, drug trafficking and cooperation in cyber security among SCO member countries.

Nityanand Rai also met a top Interpol official after this meeting and held meetings with his counterparts from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. In his meeting with James Stephen, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO), the Minister of State for Home discussed preparations for the upcoming Interpol General Assembly to be hosted by India in October.

Discussion on terrorism and drug trafficking

Nityanand Rai held discussions with the Interior Minister of Tajikistan on the regional situation and issues of mutual interest, besides bilateral security cooperation, training and capacity building. He also met the Interior Minister of Uzbekistan. Discussions were held on strengthening security cooperation, including tackling the challenges of terrorism and drug trafficking in the region.
