The farmers who went on a dharna from Punjab to Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh will return today. On August 17, more than 10 thousand farmers had gone to Lakhimpur Kheri from various farmers’ groups from the state. The farmers had opened a front against Union Minister of State Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish Mishra Taini there.

The demand of the farmers is that Ajay Mishra should be removed from the post of minister and the strictest punishment should be given to Taini, who killed the farmers. During the farmers’ agitation, the police have registered cases against the farmers. When the movement was ended, there were some agreements with the central government. The case also had a point of withdrawal in these agreements.

Farmer leaders said that the central government and the state government of Uttar Pradesh are backing down from the agreement made. Cases registered against farmers have not been withdrawn yet. During the dharna in Uttar Pradesh, the farmers have also demanded from the state government that the cases registered against the farmers should be withdrawn with immediate effect.

The farmers will return by the same means through which they had gone from Uttar Pradesh today. Now the leaders of 31 farmers’ groups will again gather on the highway in front of the sugar mill in Phagwara on August 25 in a dharna. In this dharna, the ongoing struggle over sugarcane arrears in Punjab can be given a new shape.
