6,000 crore drugs racket case in Punjab: 2 High Court judges withdraw from hearing; Chief Justice to form new bench

International wrestler Jagdish Bhola was said to be the mastermind of this racket. He is an Arjuna Award winner. He was recruited as DSP in Punjab Police.

Two High Court judges have recused themselves from hearing Punjab’s high-profile 6000 crore drugs racket case. Justice AG Masih Justice Alok Kumar withdrew from the hearing. Justice Alok Kumar said that he had been the counsel for the Center in this matter. Because of this he withdrew from the hearing. Now a new bench will be formed in this matter on behalf of the Chief Justice.

Majithia’s name came in this racket
Recently, the name of former minister Bikram Majithia, who was released from jail, came in this drug racket. In this case which started in 2012, the first FIR was registered in Fatehgarh Sahib and in the initial stage this case also looked like other normal cases. There was a political uproar in this when Jagdish Bhola, the main accused in the case, who appeared in the case in 2014 and sacked DSP of Punjab Police, took the name of the then Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia. Then he got a clean chit. The previous Congress government registered a case against Majithia and sent him to jail.

19 including Bhola were sentenced
In the synthetic drug smuggling case, the first two cases were registered in Fatehgarh Sahib and Banur police stations. After that 5 more cases were registered in different districts of Punjab. Jagdish Bhola was acquitted in 4 of these cases while Jagdish Bhola was sentenced to 10, 12 and 2 years in 3 other cases. Apart from Bhola, 18 others have also been imprisoned in these cases ranging from 6 months to 15 years. 51 people were arrested in this case. From which 71 vehicles, 13 weapons and a huge amount of synthetic drugs were recovered.
