The Supreme Court has registered a reduction of 0.65% in case pendency this year, while the High Court has registered an increase of 0.82% and that of the subordinate judiciary by 4.32%.
Winter vacations are starting in the Supreme Court from Saturday 17th December. Friday is the last working day of the Supreme Court before the two-week vacation. After this the court will reopen from January 2. CJI DY Chandrachud said this. He told the lawyers present in the courtroom that there would be no vacation bench till January 1.
The issue of court holidays raised earlier also
The issue related to court holidays has been raised earlier also. Several judges, including former CJI NV Ramana, had said that it is a misconception that judges take rest during vacations. While delivering the Justice SB Sinha Memorial Lecture on ‘Life of a Judge’ in Ranchi in July 2022, the then CJI Ramana had said that judges get sleepless nights and they think over their decisions again and again.

CJI said in a hearing – no case is small for SC
In response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Thursday – till December 9, only 777 judges are working in 25 High Courts of the country. While the posts of 1108 judges are approved. Out of which 331 (30 percent) posts are vacant.
On the other hand, on Friday itself, CJI Chandrachud said- “No matter is small for the Supreme Court. If we do not give relief while taking action in matters of personal liberty, then what are we doing here?”
Incidentally, the CJI’s remarks came after the Law Minister had said that the Supreme Court should not hear bail pleas, but should hear constitutional matters.

SC disposed of 29 thousand cases till September this year
