Gait Analysis: Despite lakhs of efforts of the police, criminals commit some or the other big crime every day, there are many cases in which the police and the investigating agencies lose their sweat in reaching the accused. For this, different methods of investigation are used. A similar method is now being used by the police. Which is being called Gait Analysis Test. It was used for the first time in Maharashtra, where a murder case in Mumbai was solved with the help of this gate analysis. Let us understand what is this gate analysis and how helpful it can be for the police.
Mumbai Police solved the case
In September 2021, a young woman was first raped and later murdered in Mumbai city. This woman was found badly injured in Sakinaka area. After which he died in the hospital. Later it was found that the private parts of the girl were stabbed with sharp weapons, due to which she died. After this murder, the police started searching for the accused. However, the police could not find any solid evidence.
Mumbai Police got a CCTV footage from the same area in which a man is seen but the footage was so bad that it was difficult to identify him. Now to know his identity, the police resorted to Gait Analysis Test. After this, on the basis of all the evidence, the accused Mohan Chauhan was arrested by the police. This was the first time that gate analysis was used as a forensic tool in Maharashtra.

Now let us answer this question that how the police confirmed the identity of the accused through gate analysis and proved it in the court. The police recorded the movement of the accused in the CCTV footage found on the night of the murder, followed by the same distance and again recorded his walking style in the same light condition. After analyzing the gate of both, it was concluded that they are the same person. Both the videos were produced in the court.
What is Gait Analysis
If understood in simple language, gate analysis is nothing but defining the gait of a person. That is, from which angle you are seen walking, this is analyzed. This is not a method of crime investigation, but a method of medical treatment. It is used for walking and correcting your posture during this. Doctors also find out from this that what is the source of injury or pain suffered by the person.
Gait analysis is also used by most physiotherapists, it can also be used in athletics training to help athletes perform better and more comfortably. Now this technique is also being used to identify suspects in criminal cases. After getting the CCTV footage, identifying the accused becomes much easier with gate analysis.
