Monsoon has advanced further into the Bay of Bengal after stalling over the remote islands for the last 11 days. Nine states including Punjab and Haryana received rains along with thunderstorms on Tuesday. It was cloudy and cold winds continued to blow throughout the day in Punjab on Tuesday. Fatehgarh Sahib received 61.5 mm of rain in 24 hours, while Chandigarh received 36.5 mm of rain. The Meteorological Department said that the monsoon has advanced in the Bay of South West Bengal. Conditions are favorable for its further advance in the next 2-3 days.

Amid the orange alert in Himachal, there was light snowfall on the high peaks of Kunjam Pass and Rohtang and heavy rain in other areas on Monday night. Due to this, a huge drop in temperature was recorded. During 24 hours, Shimla’s minimum temperature fell 5.6° below normal and recorded 9.9° Celsius. Earlier in the year 2009, on May 30, the minimum temperature of Shimla was recorded at 10.5°C.
