Turkish air strike on many cities of Syria, bombs rained from the air – 12 people killed, dozens injured

Turkish Air Strikes on Syria: Turkish airstrikes targeted several towns in northern Syria, including the city of Kobane late on Saturday. This information was given by the Kurdish-led army present there and a monitoring group based in Britain. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least six members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and six pro-government soldiers were killed in the attacks. There is also information about dozens of injuries.

Two villages affected in the attack

The Kurdish-led army based in Syria said that internally displaced people lived in at least two villages affected by the attack. It also includes the eastern rural areas around Kobane, also known as Ain al-Arab.

The attacks come days after the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was blamed for last Sunday’s deadly bombing in central Istanbul, according to media reports. Turkey said Tuesday it planned to pursue targets in northern Syria after completing a cross-border operation against the group.

What did the SDF spokesperson say?

Farhad Shami, a spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces, tweeted, “#Kobane, the city that defeated ISIS, has been bombed by captured Turkish aircraft.” The PKK and the SDF have denied any involvement in the Istanbul attack, in which six people were killed and 80 were injured.

Turkey’s Defense Ministry shared a photo of a fighter jet taking off and tweeted late Saturday that “the time has come to count.” Kobane, a Kurdish-majority city in Syria near the Turkish border, was captured by the self-styled Islamic State group in late 2014. Earlier, Kurdish fighters had driven them out early the following year.
