Cattle Smuggling: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Meghalaya have always been thwarting smuggling attempts. This time also the jawans have seized 40 cattle being taken for smuggling in Bangladesh. Along with this, BSF jawans have also arrested three smugglers. The security forces received information that the cattle were going to be loaded in trucks and taken to Bangladesh for smuggling. As soon as the information was received, the BSF personnel went out in a joint operation with the Meghalaya Police. Acting on a tip-off, BSF seized three trucks from Muktapur-Amlarem Road, West Jaintia Hills, in which cattle were brutally loaded and were being taken to Bangladesh for smuggling.
The BSF said in a statement that “Acting on a specific tip-off on February 10, 2023, Vigilance Squads of 04 Battalion BSF Meghalaya and State Police jointly seized 3 trucks from Muktapur-Amalarem Road, West Jaintia Hills In which 40 cattle were brutally packed and were being taken to Bangladesh for smuggling.
Caught two smugglers from the spot
The arrested smugglers and seized goods have been handed over to Muktapur police post for further legal action. BSF said, “The joint operation team also apprehended two smugglers from the spot, who are residents of District Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya. Due to increased vigilance by BSF along the International Border from January 2023, 450 cattle were seized from different border areas of Meghalaya.” has been seized.”
