Three Baltic countries impose visa ban on Russian citizens, EU preparing for tougher sanctions


Visa Ban On Russians: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland have banned the entry of Russian citizens with tourist visas into their countries amid Russia’s war in Ukraine. According to Lithuania’s border controls, 11 Russian citizens had already been denied entry into the country. Lithuania’s interior minister, Agni Biloteto, claimed, “Russia’s position is unpredictable and aggressive. We see that three-quarters of Russian citizens support Russia’s actions in Ukraine.”

EU also soon imposed sanctions

The new restrictions were agreed upon in this meeting. This information was given by Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell. Speaking to reporters in New York, Josep Borrell said that 27 countries have made political decisions to implement new regional and individual measures. The ministers also agreed to continue to supply more weapons to Ukraine.

Josep Borrell said Putin’s announcement, which included moves to annex Ukrainian territory and the threat of using nuclear weapons to defend Russia, reflected panic and frustration. “It is clear that Putin is trying to destroy Ukraine,” he said.

Borrell said the ministers agreed to have their teams work to prepare the 8th sanctions package, which would “target more relevant sectors of the Russian economy and continue to target those responsible for the war of aggression in Ukraine.” ”

Formal meeting to be held in mid-October

EU ministers will hold their next formal meeting in mid-October, when a sanctions package could be formalised. The ministers also agreed to increase arms supplies to Ukraine. Borrell declined to provide further details on the type of sanctions or military support, but said he believed there would be “unanimous” support within the bloc for the new measures.

Biden furious at Russia at UNGA

Significantly, US President Joe Biden, while addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), attacked Russia fiercely regarding the Russia-Ukraine War.
