The house we are talking about is located between Vermont (US) and Quebec (Canada). The cost of this 7,000 sq ft house is around $109,000 i.e. Rs 71 lakh. It is owned by Brian and Joan Dumoulin. He too had inherited the property 40 years ago. The home is located on Stansted’s Rue Principal, directly across from the port of entry staffed by Canada Border Services Agency agents, and adjacent to the US Customs and Border Protection post.
A lot of potential buyers are eyeing the property, but Dumoulin is finding it difficult to sell the property as it needs a lot of renovations and the security restrictions on crossing the land are too tight.
About 10-12 customers come daily
The house has attracted both US and Canadian house agents who bring about ten to twelve parties each day to show the house. Once the family of a potential Canadian buyer stepped inside the US line, the Dumoulins had to report to the Canadian Border Post and the ‘issue’ was resolved within 45 minutes.
Entry gate on both sides
The house has entry gates from both the US and Canada sides. There is also a gate in the backyard hedge, which American agents wanted to close. Dumoulin was obliged to do so for security reasons, so the gate remains closed at all times.
