Wheat Prices Increase 2022 : The Central Government has issued its statement regarding the rising prices of wheat across the country. The government has indicated that it is necessary to curb hoarding, now action can be taken against them. The government is considering disclosure of wheat stocks by traders and imposing stock limits. The central government says that there is sufficient stock of wheat in the country and due to speculation, there has been a jump in the prices of wheat.

Addressing the 82nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Roller Floor Millers Federation of India, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said that there is no problem of wheat in the country. 24 million tonnes of wheat is available in the godowns of the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
Wheat production to be 105 million tonnes
Pandey says that in the Rabi season of the crop year 2021-22 (July-June), the government’s wheat production estimate is about 105 million tonnes. Traders said that the production would be around 95 million tonnes. If trade estimates are also taken into account, the production is sufficient to meet the domestic demand. So far 45 lakh tonnes of wheat has been exported in the current financial year. Out of this, 21 lakh tonnes of wheat was shipped before the ban on export was imposed on 13 May. India had exported 72 lakh tonnes of wheat in the last financial year.

The Food Secretary says that the prices have been affected due to speculative business. The speculators have hoarded because of the possibility of a rise in prices. Now wheat is coming in the market. He said that disclosure of wheat stocks by traders could be the first step before imposing stock limits to check hoarding and black marketing. In many states including Punjab and Haryana, wheat production has come down due to heat.

The government will soon take a decision regarding the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). PMGKAY scheme is ending in September. Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey says that the government has to take this decision. He hoped that the government would take a decision on this soon.
80 crore will get benefit
The government had started PMGKAY to deliver food grains to every person during the lockdown in the Corona Pandemic. The government in March extended the PMGKAY till September 2022. About 80 crore beneficiaries included in the National Food Security Act are being given 5 kg of food grains per person per month free of cost.
