After having a better understanding about the production of the next sugar year, 30 to 5 million tonnes of sugar can be allowed for export. It is difficult to get a clear idea about next year’s production. Sugar production in the year 2022-23 is estimated to be around this year’s record 360 lakh tonnes.

On October 1, 2022, when the new season begins, the carryover stock of the mills from the previous season is expected to be 6 million tonnes as against 8 million tonnes a year ago. Keeping in view the local demand, requirement of ethanol production and requirement of mills for their annual carryover stock, we feel.

India will have a huge exportable surplus in the year 2022-23. We do not want to allow export of 80 or 9 million tonnes of sugar at a time due to uncertain weather affecting crops and agricultural production, we will be cautious about it.

India’s domestic sugar consumption is estimated to be around 27.50 million tonnes and mills are expected to use 4.5 million tonnes of sugar for ethanol production in the 2022-23 season. The mills will set aside at least six million tonnes of sugar as their annual carryover stock.
