On May 18, 2022, Aftab strangled his live-in partner Shraddha to death.
In the Shraddha murder case, the trial against accused Aftab has started in Delhi’s Saket court. Shraddha’s brother Shreejay testified in the case on Thursday. He said in the court that Shraddha had told me that Aftab used to quarrel with her and also used to beat her.
Three people including Shraddha’s brother testified in the court. Now the cross examination of the three witnesses will be held on July 12.
On 18 May 2022, Aftab killed his live-in partner Shraddha. Aftab cut the body into 35 pieces to dispose of it. After this the pieces were thrown at different places.
Aftab has been charged with murder and destruction of evidence
Delhi’s Saket court framed charges of murder and destruction of evidence against Aftab on May 9. Additional Sessions Judge Manish Khurana Kakkar said that a case is made out against the accused under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing evidence of offence) of the IPC.
On January 24, the police filed a 6,629-page charge sheet against Aftab in this case. The court said that the Delhi Police has presented sufficient evidence, so a case of murder and destruction of evidence is made out against Aftab. On this Aftab’s lawyer said that he is ready to face the trial.
Actually, as soon as the charges are framed by the court under the rule, the accused has two options. First- On accepting the charge, the court immediately pronounces the sentence. Second- to face trial. Aftab denied the allegations and opted to face trial.
It is seen in the CCTV footage of October 18 that Aftab had made three rounds that night. The police had then expressed suspicion that he had gone to throw away the pieces of Shraddha’s body.
Murder on 18 May 2022, 35 pieces of the body were kept in the fridge
Aftab is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar to death on 18 May 2022. Later his body was cut into 35 pieces and kept in the fridge. Then threw them in the forest. Delhi Police arrested him on 12 November 2022. On January 24, the police filed a 6,629-page charge sheet against Aftab in this case.
During the investigation, the Delhi Police conducted narco and polygraph tests on Aftab, in which he confessed to killing Shraddha. In the case, the police recorded statements of more than 150 witnesses. The police had also recorded Aftab’s vice sample, at present the matter is in the court.
In 2020, Shraddha had written a letter to the Mumbai Police saying, Aftab kills me, he will kill me and break me into pieces.
had already made up his mind to kill before May 18
According to sources, Aftab confessed to the police that Aftab had made up his mind to kill Shraddha a week before the day of the murder i.e. May 18. Shraddha and Aftab had a fight that day too. He had said, ‘I had decided to kill her on May 11 itself that she suddenly became emotional and started crying. So I decided that now I will kill it some other day.
Aftab lived on the first floor of this building. He didn’t meet anyone. The people living in the building did not even know his name before this case.
Aftab used to keep Shraddha’s Instagram account updated
Talking to the news agency, a police officer said- Aftab told during interrogation that he was used to watching web series and especially crime shows. Seeing these, he learned how to keep Shraddha’s body parts in the fridge. Not only this, through these series and shows, he also learned how to show Shraddha alive in the eyes of family and friends. For this, he used to keep posting on Shraddha’s Instagram profile and account to keep it updated. No one helped him in this.
The father didn’t know where the daughter was.
In a conversation with the news agency, Shraddha’s father Vikas said – I had my last meeting with her in 2021. Then I asked him how is your live in partner. He didn’t say much. I didn’t even know that she had shifted to Delhi. One of her friends told that Shraddha is not in Bangalore but in Delhi. Aftab got a lot of time to destroy the evidence.
