Shock to Imran Khan in six-year-old defamation case, Shehbaz Sharif had filed a case


Imran Khan: A Pakistani court has dismissed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s petition in a six-year-old defamation case. Pakistan’s current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had filed this defamation case against Imran for $61 million. Imran had delayed in answering this, on which the sessions court had deprived him of the right to reply to Imran.

Imran challenged the decision of the Sessions Court of Lahore in the High Court. Lahore High Court Judge Chaudhary Muhammad Iqbal on Friday (December 9) dismissed Imran’s petition after hearing arguments from both sides and upheld the decision of the sessions court.

Imran has lost his authority.

The Lahore sessions court had said that the 70-year-old Imran had lost his right of reply or protest for failing to respond in time to the objections raised against Shehbaz.

Imran had alleged in April 2017 that Shehbaz had offered him (Imran) US$61 million (approx. 10 billion Pakistani rupees) was offered.

Imran did not name the person who allegedly offered him USD 61 million on behalf of Shehbaz. Later, in the defamation suit filed on behalf of Shahbaz, it was stated that the respondent (Imran) had made false and malicious statements against him.

Imran damaged reputation

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had alleged that Imran had damaged his reputation. He requested the court to issue an order to recover US $ 61 million as compensation in this case. In the year 2017, in the Panama Papers case, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had disqualified Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif from the post of Prime Minister.
