CM Bhagwant Mann taking stock of the project after laying the foundation stone of the medical college on August 5.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s dream project Sangrur Medical College has suffered a setback. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed its construction. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has raised objections regarding the transfer of land.
SGPC said that this land belongs to Gurdwara Sahib. The trust cannot allow it to transfer or build a college to the government at its level. After which the High Court has stayed. The next hearing of the matter will be on September 22.

The matter in the High Court, yet the CM laid the foundation stone
CM Bhagwant Mann had laid the foundation stone of the medical college on 5th August. However, the SGPC had already reached the High Court in July. The SGPC had opposed giving this land to the Punjab government as a gift on behalf of the Gurdwara Trust. The SGPC said that the ownership of the land belongs to the Gurudwara. This Gurudwara comes under SGPC. The High Court had also issued notice to the government. Despite this, the CM laid the foundation stone here.
