This is about the time when she left Bangladesh to live with her nuclear scientist husband in Germany. It was 30th July in 1975 and family members had come to the airport to see off Haseena and her sister. It was a pleasant farewell and Hasina had no idea that this would be her last meeting with her parents.

Received news of father’s murder on August 15 – Hasina

A fortnight later, on the morning of August 15, Hasina received news that she found it difficult to believe. His father, the great statesman Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was killed. This news was not limited to the death of his father, but many more members of his family were also murdered. This day was one of the darkest chapters in the history of Bangladesh.

Recalling that period, Hasina said that India was one of the first countries to help her. Indira Gandhi immediately sent information that she wanted to give us security and shelter. After this he decided to come back to Delhi. Because if he went to Delhi, he could easily go back to his country from there and find out how many members of the family have been killed.

Today the pain in Hasina’s voice

Even though it may have been five decades since this accident, the pain still lingers in Hasina’s voice. He said that it was a very difficult time for him. The then Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Humayun Rashid Chowdhury was the first to give an account of the massacre of his family.
