District police chief Sirajul Hooda said seven bodies were recovered from near Boda town in the Korota river where the boat capsized. Police said on Sunday that a total of 90 people were on board the boat, out of which 50 were pilgrims. The district police chief told FP that 60 people were still missing. He told that there were three times more people in the boat than the capacity. It had rained heavily in the morning on the day of the accident and so when the boat started its journey, the pilgrims started pushing for the boat to reach the temple quickly.
10 people were rescued
According to the police, the sailor asked some people to get off the boat to lose weight, but no one listened to him. Local media said at least 10 people had been rescued and sent to hospital. At the same time, a video related to the accident has also surfaced, in which a congested boat suddenly overturns and passengers are shown falling into the muddy river.
Thousands of Hindus come every year to visit the centuries-old Bodeshwari temple in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. On Sunday, Durga Puja, the biggest Hindu festival, began in Bangladesh – and in eastern India too – the temple was filled with huge crowds.
This kind of incident has happened before

Last December, about 40 people were killed when a loaded three-storey boat caught fire in southern Bangladesh. In June 2020, a yacht sank after colliding with another ship in Dhaka, killing at least 32 people. At the same time, in June 2015, a congested ship collided with a cargo ship in a river west of the capital, killing 78 people.
