Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia suddenly reached Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport on Monday following complaints of overcrowding from passengers. He inspected the congested areas. Interacted with the airport staff and gave directions. A video of this has also been released by Scindia’s office.
After the inspection, Scindia told the media- Last week I organized a meeting, in which all the stake holders were present. The aviation industry was suffering huge losses due to the Covid restrictions. Due to recovery from this, there is a lot of crowd at the airports.
Scindia also interacted with the airport staff.
Number of entry gates increased from 14 to 16
He said that today we have increased the number of entry gates from 14 to 16. In a meeting with the officials inside the airport, it has been decided that a board should be installed at every entry gate to show the waiting time before entry. This will help people to reach the gate where there will be minimum waiting time.
Scindia told that today another important decision has been taken regarding the security process. Presently there are 13 lines in use at Delhi airport, which we have increased to 16. We are also trying to add some more lines taking it closer to 20 lines.

Many passengers had to wait for hours at the Delhi airport on Sunday. Passengers are troubled by the crowd from security check to boarding gate. Several people also shared pictures of the crowd at Terminal 3 (T3) on social media. Rocky Singh, the host of a popular travel show on TV and the Internet, was also one of the complainants. He shared a picture with a long line and wrote in the caption – Welcome to Hell.
Work is being done on these schemes to reduce congestion
The Delhi airport and the civil aviation ministry have also come out with a four-point plan to decongest the airport amid complaints of overcrowding and long lines during check-in. X-ray screening system will be enhanced, one Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) machine and two standard X-ray machines will be installed, two entry points – Gate 1A and Gate 8B will be converted for passenger use and during peak hours Airlines are being talked to reduce the flight.
1.90 lakh passengers travel from Delhi airport every day
The country’s largest airport IGIA has three terminals – T1, T2 and T3. All international flights as well as some domestic services operate from T3. About 1.90 lakh passengers travel every day at this airport. Also around 1,200 flights are operated everyday.
