Lukaku set for Chelsea return

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea following his season-long loan.

The Belgian rejoined the Nerazzurri from the Blues last summer following a fall-out with then-manager Thomas Tuchel.

He has since struggled for form and consistency and Marotta has voiced concern over his performances this season.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Marotta confirmed that the striker will return to the Blues when his loan deal expires on June 30.

He hinted that the Nerazzurri may not re-sign Lukaku, considering he is no longer the same player from his first spell.

Marotta said on Tuesday evening: “The loan was for one season so on June 30 regardless of how well he plays, he’ll go back to Chelsea.”

“Lukaku hasn’t found the fitness he needs to play his best football. He’s still not at his best or the player we got to see in years gone by.”

Chelsea are currently managed by Graham Potter. The Englishman has no plans of working with Lukaku in the next campaign.

It is likely that the club will seek to offload him permanently. They are set to face a huge loss on the £97m fee paid to sign him in 2021.
