Railway overbridge opened on Delhi-Meerut Expressway: It took one and a half years to build a bridge weighing 2270 tons, now travel on 16 lanes of DME

Asia’s heaviest railway overbridge (ROB) was finally opened on Thursday night. This overbridge, weighing 2270 tonnes on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, is built near Chipiyana village near Lalkuan in Ghaziabad. It took a full year and a half to make it. In a way, now the 16 lanes of Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be able to travel. Till now only 12 lanes were operational.

The width of this bridge is 30 meters. The bridge weighs 2270 tonnes. It is said to be the heaviest railway bridge in Asia.

Big relief to those going from Delhi to Meerut-Haridwar
Delhi-Meerut Expressway is open for public from 1st April 2021. 16 lanes have been made from Ghaziabad to Delhi. While this expressway from Meerut to Ghaziabad is of six lanes. Due to the construction work of railway overbridge near Chipiyana village in Ghaziabad, only 12 of the 16 lanes were operational. The biggest problem was faced by the drivers going from Delhi to Ghaziabad, Meerut, Dehradun.

Due to the long jam near this railway bridge, the drivers had to be stuck for a long time. Finally, the railway overbridge was opened to the public from Thursday night. Earlier, it was tested by standing 20 loaded trucks together for 72 hours.

130 meters long and 30 meters wide
NHAI got this overbridge inaugurated by two laborers. A laborer named Shailendra Kumar broke the coconut and the lace was cut by Bijendra’s hands. The weight of this bridge, 130 meters long and 30 meters wide, is 2270 tons. Under the bridge, 1100 tons of iron is installed. When the first girder was launched to make this overbridge, 155 trains had to be stopped on the very first day. 1 lakh 13 thousand nut-bolts have been used in the construction of this bridge.

The bridge was pulled daily 8-10 inches
This heaviest rail overbridge has been made by pushing instead of pulling. This bridge has been prepared under the supervision of Konkan Railway. The launching pad was made by putting 40 thousand nut-bolts and then the process of pulling this bridge forward 8 to 10 inches daily.

Preparation to increase toll tax by 25%
Till now toll collection was being done only between Meerut to Ghaziabad. Now after the commissioning of the Chipiyana Railway Overbridge, preparations are on to collect toll tax from Dasna in Ghaziabad to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. It is being said that the toll tax can be increased by up to 25 percent. From Meerut to Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan, a toll of up to Rs 140 can be charged. However, the road and transport ministry will take the final decision on this.
