Punjab Government did not send panel to Governor: Baba Farid University’s appointment as VC, Purohit had asked for 3 names

Even though Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has said that there is no difference of opinion with Governor Banwari Lal Purohit. But the government did not send a panel of 3 names to the Punjab Governor on Wednesday for the appointment of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Baba Farid University.

Earlier, the Punjab Government had sent the file related to the appointment of Vice Chancellor to the Governor with the recommendation of the name of Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander, but the Governor had asked the Punjab Government to send a panel of 3 names while returning the file. Due to this, the ongoing tussle between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Governor Banwari Lal Purohit was seen increasing since September 22.

Former VC Dr. Raj Bahadur had resigned

Health Minister Chetan Singh Jodamajra, after reaching the surprise checking, put the first VC of Faridkot University, Dr. Raj Bahadur, on a dirty mattress. Frustrated by this, Dr. Raj Bahadur had resigned. Since then the post of Vice Chancellor of the University has been lying vacant.

CM did not reach the President’s welcome on Airforce Day

On Air Force Day, October 8, President Draupadi Murmu had reached a program organized at Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was also present with him. Governor of both the states and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, including the CM of Punjab-Haryana, had reached for the President’s welcome. But Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann did not attend the program to fulfill the constitutional responsibility and protocol. He was campaigning with AAP convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on his Gujarat tour.

Canceling the session increased the tussle

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann called the assembly session on 22 September just to prove the trust vote. But despite AAP having 92 MLAs with an absolute majority, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit withdrew the approval for the session, calling the session only for the trust vote as unconstitutional. After this, the Punjab CM and other AAP MLAs took out a march on foot from the assembly to the High Court, accusing the governor of working at the behest of the BJP.

CM called the session on 27

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann called the session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha again on 27 September to discuss stubble, electricity and other issues of Punjab. The Punjab Governor approved the session to discuss these issues related to Punjab. But CM Bhagwant Mann brought a vote of confidence in the House without informing the Governor and got it passed.
