Umesh Pal Murder Case: Prayagraj Police and District Administration have shortlisted 40 properties of jailed gangster Atiq Ahmed. The police are going through the records to find out whether they were procured through illegal means. Police, revenue and Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) officials are collecting details of Atiq’s properties in Kasari Masri, Kareli, Harwara, Sadiyapur, Mundera, Atala, Gaddopur and other areas of the district.
The action that began in 2018 has gained momentum after Atiq and his family members were named in the recent murder of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case. In November 2022, senior police officials prepared a dossier on Atiq’s illegal assets and later attached several properties in Prayagraj, Kaushambi and Lucknow.
Police attached property worth 570 crores
According to the dossier, the police have already attached assets worth more than Rs 150 crore of Atiq and his family members under the Gangster Act. Along with this, property worth more than Rs 180 crore has been demolished in Prayagraj and surrounding districts. Properties worth over Rs 85 crore of his gang members and close associates have been attached and properties worth over Rs 570 crore have been demolished so far.
Plan to demolish gangster’s economic empire
Police have attached, seized and suspended or canceled more than a dozen arms licenses of the gang in the last five years. According to a police officer, we have started work in Prayagraj and neighboring districts. The police have drawn up a plan to demolish the economic empire of the gangster and his associates in other states as well.
Atiq is currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat, while many of his associates are also lodged in various jails in UP. Meanwhile, 32-year-old police constable Raghavendra Singh, who was injured in the shooting incident in Prayagraj, also succumbed to his injuries. Singh was posted under Pal’s security and was with him when he was attacked.
