Police solved more than 250 criminal cases with the help of CCTV surveillance system


Chandigarh: Chandigarh Smart City Limited claimed that its CCTV surveillance system has helped the police solve more than 250 crime incidents in the city. Chandigarh Smart City Limited has issued a statement regarding this. Smart City Limited said that as per the recent statistics, the CCTV surveillance system has helped the police in solving more than 250 cases in the last seven months. In which cases like murder, snatching, road accident, hit and run, vehicle theft and burglary etc. are included.

Smart City Limited said that 5,47,900 challans have been issued from March 2022 to February 26, 2023, resulting in improvement in road safety and reduction in deployment of traffic personnel.

For surveillance, around 900 CCTV cameras were installed at various places across Chandigarh, which are being monitored through the Command and Control Center. About 285 different places of the city are being monitored on real time basis through these advanced cameras.

These places include intersections, government schools, entry and exit points, water treatment facilities, parking lots, hospital entrances, gardens, etc. This component of the Smart City Mission went live in October 2022 and was subject to a stabilization period for three months till January 2023.

Anindita Mitra, Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Smart City Limited said that during the stabilization period, firmware upgrades, system failures, application issues, hardware compatibility issues, maintenance challenges etc. were faced. Despite this, these CCTV cameras are serving the city from the date of installation and helping the police department.

Anindita Mitra said that during December 2022 all connected cameras were monitored by ICCC’s Enterprise Management System. This Enterprise Management System (EMS) is being used to monitor the functionality of all field equipment. Chandigarh Smart City has entered into a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the System Integrator for real-time monitoring of the cameras so that the quality of service does not deteriorate during the maintenance period.
