Most murder cases in UP
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, in the year 2021, 29,272 cases of murder were registered in India. In the year 2020, this number was 29,193 and in the year 2019, this number was 28,915. The figures for the year 2021 saw a slight increase of 0.3% as compared to the year 2020. Among the states, the maximum number of 3,717 murder cases were registered in UP. After this, 2,799 cases were registered in Bihar and 2,330 in Maharashtra. 2,034 cases were registered in Madhya Pradesh and 1,884 in West Bengal. The lowest number of murder cases were 14 in Sikkim. In the year 2021, the maximum number of 454 murder cases were registered in Delhi. In the year 2021, the lowest number of 5 murder cases were registered in Kozhikode, Kerala. Delhi is followed by Mumbai with 162 murder cases, Chennai with 161 cases, Bengaluru with 155 cases, Surat with 121 cases, Jaipur with 118 cases, Lucknow with 101 cases and Pune with 100 cases. In 2021, a total of 1,955 cases of murder were registered in the metros.
motive behind the murders
The main motive behind the murders was 849 cases of dispute, 380 cases of personal enmity and 122 cases of love affair. At the national level, there were 9,765 cases of main motive dispute, 3,782 cases of retaliation and 1,692 cases of greed.
