In protest against the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raid at the Sector 27 house and office of Chandigarh-based lawyer Dr. Shaili Sharma, lawyers in the Punjab and Haryana High Court will remain closed today. In such a situation, the hearing of civil and criminal cases will be affected. High Court Bar Association secretary Vishal Agarwal has said that the bar opposes illegal raids at the house of NIA lawyer Shaili Sharma and the High Court will be closed on October 20 in protest against the incident.

On the other hand, the District Bar Association (DBA) will also remain closed in the district court of Chandigarh today. Association President Sunil Tony said that today afternoon the Executive Committee of DBA will consider this issue and formulate a further strategy.

Will write a letter to the officers involved in the raid

Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana Chairman Suveer Sidhu has said that it is wrong to interfere in the work of Advocates in this way. It is also against the Advocates Act, 1961 and the Evidence Act. The Bar Council had called a meeting on this issue in which all the 27 members attended. In this, a motion of condemnation was brought against the action of NIA lawyers and it was said that some steps should be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future. At the same time, this issue was also raised in the General House meeting. In such a situation, the Bar Council has decided that letters will be written to the officers involved in the raid of NIA regarding their wrong action. At the same time the next strategy will also be decided.

Let us inform that the NIA had seized documents and mobiles and laptops etc. The Bar Council had written to the Director General of NIA against this raid.

This raid was done on the morning of 18 October at 6 o’clock in the house of Advocate Dr. Shaili Sharma. The NIA had also searched his two mobile phones, his laptop and computer and took away some documents. Shelly Sharma was interrogated for about 3 and a half hours. According to the information, Shaili Sharma is pleading in the court in the cases of more than 2 dozen gangsters. Among them is A+ category gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. In the year 2019, after the acquittal of the accused in the gangstas Sukha Kahlwan murder case, his clients had increased.
