The lawyers of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, Chandigarh, stalled the work on Monday. Lawyers will not go to work on further orders of the Executive Committee of the High Court Bar Association. The bar has taken this step in protest against the raid at the house of Advocate Dr. Shaili Sharma in Chandigarh of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Even before this, lawyers in the courts of Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh, had stalled work against this raid.

The High Court Bar Association has written a letter to the Registrar General, Punjab and Haryana High Court, requesting that due to the proposal to stop the functioning of the General House, if any lawyer does not appear for the hearing of the case, then the opposite order should not be passed. At the same time, also provide information about this to the High Court judges. Vishal Aggarwal, secretary of the High Court Bar Association, has written this letter to the Registrar General. The High Court bar has said that it is wrong to interfere in the work of advocates by any agency in this way. It is also against the Advocates Act, 1961 and the Evidence Act.

The NIA had also searched his two mobile phones, his laptop and computer and took away some documents. Shelly Sharma was interrogated for about 3 and a half hours. According to the information, Shaili Sharma is pleading in the court in the cases of more than 2 dozen gangsters. Among them is A+ category gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. In the year 2019, after the acquittal of the accused in the gangstas Sukha Kahlwan murder case, his clients had increased.

Let us inform that the NIA had seized documents and mobiles and laptops etc. The Bar Council had written to the Director General of NIA against this raid. The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has decided to issue notices to all National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers who violated the advocate-client privilege and raided the offices and homes of lawyers.
