A fight broke out between AAP and BJP members during the Standing Committee elections at the Civic Center of Delhi MCD on Wednesday.
After the mayoral election in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday, the standing committee elections began on Wednesday evening. After this, an uproar started in the house. AAP and BJP members started fighting. Among them there were male councilors as well as women councilors. Both of them showered kicks and punches on each other. Bottles were thrown in the House and ballot boxes were overturned.
Shelly Oberoi said that BJP councilors tried to attack me. This is the end of hooliganism of BJP, they tried to attack a woman mayor. The uproar continued in the House till late Wednesday night. The councilors of both the parties fell asleep in the house. Its pictures also came to the fore.
After breakfast on Thursday morning, the election process started again, but due to uproar, the proceedings were adjourned till tomorrow. Now the election of 6 members of the Standing Committee will start from 10 am on Friday. The proceedings of the House were adjourned 6 times from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. The BJP has accused the AAP of violating the secrecy of the vote.

Ruckus on bringing mobile during standing committee election
According to reports, some members brought mobiles during the Standing Committee elections. BJP members objected to this. The uproar started with this. Mayor Shaili Oberoi was in her chair and BJP members reached there. After this he overturned the ballot box.
After this, a fight started between the members of both AAP and BJP. Members were seen fighting with each other everywhere in the House. The women also attacked each other. After this the sloganeering started. This ruckus continued till late night.

- Delhi has got a new mayor 80 days after the municipal elections. Shelly Oberoi got 150 votes. He defeated BJP’s Rekha Gupta by 34 votes. Delhi has got a woman mayor after 10 years. BJP’s Rajni Abbi was the last woman mayor in 2011. After this, in 2012, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was divided into 3 parts in the Sheila Dixit government. In 2022, these parts were united again. After this it was the first election of MCD.
- Shelly Oberoi will be able to hold the post of mayor only for 38 days. Actually, according to section 2 (67) of DMC, the year of the corporation starts from the first day of April, which will end on 31st March of the next year. In such a situation, including the full 7 days of February and 31 days of March, only 38 days of his tenure are left. After this, the mayor’s election will be held again on April 1.
- Aale Mohammad Iqbal of AAP has been elected as the deputy mayor. He got 147 votes. He defeated Kamal Bagdi of BJP.
Delhi MCD elections were held on 4th December, results came on 8th December. AAP got 134 seats and BJP got 104 seats.
Shelly said after the victory – CM will work on Kejriwal’s 10 guarantees
After winning the mayoral election, Shelly said that we have to work together to fulfill the expectations of the people. For this, we will work on the 10 guarantees given by CM Kejriwal to the people. The inspection of the landfill site will be done within 3 months. On the other hand, after the victory of Shelly Oberoi, CM Arvind Kejriwal said that hooliganism was defeated, the people of Delhi won.
MCD election result came on December 8, BJP out after 15 years
The MCD elections in Delhi were held on 4 December, while their results came on 8 December. BJP did not get majority in MCD after 15 years in elections. To become mayor in the 250-seat house, 138 votes were needed. 241 corporators, 10 MPs and 14 MLAs cast their votes in the mayoral election. 9 Congress councilors did not participate in the election.

Elections could not be held 3 times before this
Before this, an attempt was made to hold mayoral elections thrice, but it could not happen due to the uproar by BJP and AAP members. The reason for the uproar was LG VK Saxena’s decision to allow 10 nominated MCD members to vote. AAP’s mayoral candidate Shaili Oberoi had reached the Supreme Court regarding this.
On February 17, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of AAP. Was asked to issue notice within 24 hours. After this Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal proposed to the Lieutenant Governor to hold elections on February 22, which he accepted within 2 hours.
There were three attempts on January 6, January 24 and February 6 for the deputy mayor along with the mayor and the six members of the standing committee, but each time the proceedings were adjourned following uproar by the BJP and AAP.

- January 6: Members of AAP and BJP clashed at MCD headquarters. Due to the uproar, the process of election of mayor, deputy mayor and members of the standing committee had to be postponed.
- January 24: Due to the uproar on January 6, the police had to be deployed at the headquarters. However, after this the members of both the parties started ruckus. Because of this, the House had to be adjourned again.
- February 6: The mayoral election was postponed for the third time. Members of BJP and AAP started a ruckus after the 10 nominated members were approved for the vote. After this the proceedings of the MCD House were adjourned. The matter reached the Supreme Court.

SC said- Nominated members do not have the right to vote
On February 17, a hearing was held in the Supreme Court on the issue of Delhi Mayor elections. The court directed to conduct these elections in the first meeting. For this, asked to issue notice within 24 hours. During the hearing, the court said that nominated members do not have the right to vote.
The Supreme Court said that the election of the deputy mayor can be held only after the election of the mayor. LG appoints BJP corporator Satya Sharma as pro tem speaker for mayoral election. Earlier, AAP had proposed the name of Mukesh Goyal. AAP objected to Satya’s name. AAP has 150 votes while BJP has 113 votes.
