Meeting of Punjab CM and Kejriwal with Jharkhand CM: Seeks support against BJP’s ordinance; Getting support of opposition parties

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday. At present the meeting is going on between them. AAP is seeking support from CM Soren against BJP’s ordinance.

Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal are trying to get the bill dropped in the Rajya Sabha with the support of all opposition parties. Barring Congress, all other parties have assured their support to AAP. AAP is also confident of getting support from Jharkhand CM Soren.

Kejriwal reached Chandigarh on June 1. Then, apart from many issues related to the party, some issues related to Punjab-Haryana were discussed with Bhagwant Mann. Also, further strategy was considered. After this, both the CMs went to Chennai by flight at 1 pm on June 1 and then reached Jharkhand.

It is discussed that CM Bhagwant Mann consulted Arvind Kejriwal in Chandigarh on issues like sexual misconduct of cabinet minister Kataruchak, grant of Punjab University, recognition of Haryana colleges from the university. Kejriwal has been visiting different states for several days seeking support from the leaders there to oppose the ordinance brought by the central government regarding Delhi and to oppose it in the Rajya Sabha.

Discussion on University Grant and Haryana’s entry
A meeting between CM Bhagwant Mann and Haryana CM Manohar Lal, chaired by Punjab Governor BL Purohit, is to be held again on June 5 on issues related to Punjab University (PU). In this, apart from the grant given to the university, a decision has to be taken on the demand for recognition of some colleges of Haryana from Punjab University. In the meeting chaired by the governor on June 1, Haryana CM Manohar Lal had agreed in principle to give 20% grant to Punjab University. However, in return, there is a demand from PU to give recognition to some colleges of Haryana.

Punjab has been asserting its claim on Punjab University till now. What was the agreement reached between Kejriwal and Mann on this issue, it will be clear only on June 5. From June 6, Governor BL Purohit is going on a tour of the districts of the border belt of Punjab.

Grant received from Haryana Government till 1990
For more than three decades, grants have been issued to Panjab University by the Central Government and the Government of Punjab. Whereas, till the year 1990, due to various political reasons, the Haryana government also used to give 40 percent grant. But when the grant from Haryana stopped, the grant was given only by the Central Government and the Punjab Government for the operation of Punjab University.

PU needs more than one hundred crore
Due to this, the financial condition of Punjab University became weak. Panjab University still needs more than one hundred crores for smooth functioning. If the Haryana government starts giving grants to PU again, then the financial condition of the university will be strong.

Sexual misconduct case of cabinet minister Kataruchak
An obscene video of cabinet minister Lalchand Kataruchak’s sexual misconduct by Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira was given to Punjab Governor BL Purohit with a complaint. When the forensic investigation was done by the governor, no tampering of the video was found. All the characters seen in the video were also revealed to be correct.

Recommendation of action on Minister Kataruchak
The Punjab Governor has recommended action against Cabinet Minister Kataruchak along with the forensic report to CM Bhagwant Mann, but no action has been taken by the Punjab government in the matter so far. While the governor has called for Kataruchak’s ouster from the cabinet, describing his act as heinous.
