Dignitaries present on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti at Commissionerate Park late Sunday evening.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by the students on Sunday evening at Independence Witness and Historical Park. The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri was celebrated under the aegis of Gau Raksha Seva Samiti at Chaudhary Charan Singh Park outside Meerut College and Commissionerate. In which the intellectuals of the city of Meerut expressed their views and paid tribute to these great personalities by paying floral tributes to them.
Gandhiji’s relationship with Meerut
The first freedom struggle started from Meerut. Gandhiji has also had an association in Meerut. In 1920, Gandhiji also reached Meerut College. Apart from the park outside the college, memories of Gandhiji have also been attached in Budhana Gate, Ghantaghar and Cantt area. Student leader Dr Snehveer Pundir briefed about Gandhi’s movements and his contribution to the country’s independence.

Prabhat Roy apprised about the patriotism of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri and Gandhiji. Major Himanshu said that while advising those who criticize Gandhi today, he said that all the revolutionaries were followers of Gandhi, on the one hand, believing him and creating a negative image towards Gandhiji is the little knowledge of today’s youth.
