The Municipal Corporation has woken up after the recent arson incident in a liquor factory in Chandigarh Industrial Area. Now all the buildings built in the industrial area will check the compliance of fire safety norms. For this, the team will tour the industrial area. The corporation has said that its fire safety wing will visit every building in the industrial area phase 1 and 2.

During this, the corporation will see whether fire safety equipment has been installed in the building. At the same time, in the building where NOC has been taken, are the equipment in working condition or not? Apart from this, notices will also be issued giving warnings to the building owners who have not taken NOC.

At the same time, while giving information to the building owners about fire safety, awareness will also be made to install related equipment. According to the information, there are more than 20 thousand units across the city. Out of these, only about 1 thousand owners have taken NOC. People also take it lightly as there is no strict law to strictly implement fire safety norms. Therefore, there is a need to amend the building bylaws.

Liquor factory did not install safety equipment
On Thursday, two women were stunned and a worker had a burn injury in a fierce fire that broke out in a liquor factory in Phase 1. It took about 12 hours for the fire brigade to douse the fire. The fire had spread so much that nearby Billings was also in danger. It came to the investigation of the corporation that the fire safety equipment was not installed by this liquor factory operator to get the No Objection Certificate (NOC). In such a situation, the investigation of the matter was given to the Safe Fire Officer. At the same time, it was also asked to fix the responsibility of the fire officer who had the responsibility of checking in the building concerned.

It is mandatory to get NOC of fire
There should be fire extinguishers on all the floors to get NOC from the fire department. Apart from this, the automated sprinkler system should be in the entire building. There should not be any obstacle on the route for escape in case of fire. Wiring of electrical wires should be as per BIS norms. Adequate lighting and ventilation should be provided in the building. Furniture should be equipped with flame-resistant materials. Waste materials, flammable materials etc. should not be dumped in the building. There should also be a water tank full to the top so that water can be used in case of fire.
