Tiruvannamalai ATM Robbery Case: Nizamuddin, the main accused in the Tiruvannamalai ATM robbery case, was arrested by the special police team of Chennai on Thursday. Significantly, on the morning of February 12, Rs 72.50 lakh was looted from four ATMs in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. Of this, two ATMs were in Tiruvannamalai and the other two in Kalaspakkam and Porur towns. The special team of the police, which started the investigation soon after receiving information about the robbery, said that the gang used gas welding machines to cut open the ATM and loot the money. Earlier five people were arrested in this case. Police said Nizamuddin is being interrogated whether the gang was earlier involved in ATM robberies in other states as well.
Accused brought to Chennai by air
Tiruvannamalai Superintendent of Police K Karthikeyan led the special police team in Haryana to arrest the accused. He told that we have arrested two members of the gang. He was brought to Chennai by air and from there he will be brought to Tiruvannamalai by road. The accused have been identified as mastermind Mohammad Arif (35), a resident of Sonari village in Nuh district of Haryana, and Azadh (37), a resident of Punhana district of Haryana.
Stolen car and cash recovered
Karthikeyan told that the vehicle used by the gang in the incident and Rs 3 lakh in cash have been recovered. Further investigation is still going on. In addition, two suspects in Karnataka and six other suspects apprehended in Gujarat are being interrogated by special teams. Investigation revealed that the gang had stayed at a hotel in Kolar, Karnataka and conducted recce at Tiruvannamalai before stealing the cash from the ATM. This gang had carried out the robbery by cutting the ATM with a gas welding machine.
