Ludhiana district of Punjab ranks second in the number of accidents due to animals in the country. The NCRB report proved hollow by the claims of municipal officials who talked about smart cities. According to the report, the metropolis of Ludhiana is at number two in the country in the accidents caused by destitute animals.

This means that the corporation administration has failed to take care of the destitute animals. Taxes are being collected continuously from people in the form of couse, but this tax is not visible on animals. During the night, destitute animals can be seen roaming on the highways and streets in the city, which have become the cause of accidents many times.

According to the report, so far 22 accidents have been caused by animals in Ludhiana in 2022, in which 22 people died. With these figures, Ludhiana ranks second in the list of districts across the country. Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 49 deaths in 49 accidents.

478 road accidents happened in 2021

According to the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 380 people died and 169 were injured in 478 road accidents in the year 2021. Over speeding and reckless driving were the causes of death in 72.38% of the accidents. A total of 275 people died in accidents due to over speeding and reckless driving.

Overspeeding has resulted in 257 accidents and 187 fatalities, while reckless driving has claimed 88 lives in 117 road accidents. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs resulted in 4 accidents and two people lost their lives. People died in 5 road accidents due to physical fatigue.

The weather conditions caused 13 accidents in which 13 people died. The lack of road infrastructure resulted in 7 accidents and 10 deaths. 10 road accidents took the lives of 9 people due to collision with parked vehicles. 38 accidents were caused by other reasons, in which 38 people lost their lives.

Annual savings of more than 5 crores to the corporation

Sources reveal that the corporation is paying money to the gaushala only around one and a half to two crores, while collecting 6 crores annually. In such a situation, no account was kept for where to spend more than 4 crore rupees.

On the other hand, Mayor Balkar Singh Sindhu had made big claims 3 years ago that the corporation will build its own cowshed for destitute animals, which will be built in 5 acres, but it has been more than 3 years since this claim. The corporation employees have not been able to find a place for this yet.
