Loan of more than two crores was taken using other’s PAN card, four arrested including accused doctor

Kolkata Doctor Arrested for Bank Fraud: A Kolkata doctor has been arrested by Palius on Tuesday (March 14) in connection with a bank fraud. The doctor is accused of fraudulently taking a loan of 50 lakhs from the bank. The incident officer said that this was part of a bigger racket being investigated by the police. During this investigation, a school teacher, a bank official and a central government employee have already been arrested in a similar case. A senior official said that all these loans were not repaid. He used PAN cards of people whose names matched his. Also those who had better banking records to take new loans.

Loan taken with the help of middleman
Police said that he approached the bank for the personal loan and submitted all the original documents except the PAN card. “All of them took the help of a middleman who apparently provided each of them with a photocopy of a PAN card bearing the same name,” the officer said. Police said a doctor named Debraj Chanda is the fifth person to be arrested in the case. When Chanda committed this bank fraud, he was working in a hospital located in Park Circus, Odisha.

Police said that according to the bank’s complaint, the doctor had allegedly taken a loan of Rs 50 lakh using someone else’s PAN card. An official said, the bank came to know about this fraud when that PAN card owner contacted them. He said that he has not taken any loan from the bank. After which the bank found in internal investigation that the PAN card given by Chanda was not his.

Allegations of fake loan of Rs 2.12 crore
The Kolkata Police officer said, the doctor and the four other cloves have been arrested by the police. He is accused of taking a total fake loan of Rs 2.12 crore from the bank. Police said that Dr. Chanda has taken the maximum loan out of the five.

Police arrested Chanda from an apartment in Nayabad on Tuesday afternoon. After which the police have sent all of them to judicial custody. The police suspect the involvement of many more people in this racket, which is being investigated.
