Kejriwal’s letter to PM Modi: Said- give exemption in rail fare to the elderly; It is a matter of intention, the government will not become poor

Kejriwal also told that out of the budget of 70 thousand crores, the Delhi government spends 50 crores on the pilgrimage of the elderly.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Prime Minister Modi urging him to reinstate the concession given to senior citizens in rail fares. Kejriwal wrote – The next year’s budget of Railways is Rs 45 lakh crore. 1600 crores are spent on giving concession to the elderly. The government will not become poor by spending this.

Rail concession to the elderly is closed from 20 March 2020
In 2020, the government had stopped the concession given to senior citizens in rail fare after the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of Corona epidemic. Indian Railways used to give 40% concession in fare to male passengers of 60 years and above and 50% to female passengers of 58 years and above.

These concessions were given in fares of all classes of Mail/Express/Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto group trains, but these facilities were discontinued on 20 March 2020.

Parliamentary committee recommended, no plan to give exemption to railways
Recently, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways has recommended reintroduction of the concession given to the elderly. The committee headed by BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh said that the situation has become normal after Corona. The national transporter has also achieved its normal growth.

The Committee in its 12th Action Taken Report (17th Lok Sabha) on Passenger Reservation System also desired that the fair concession for senior citizens may be reviewed.

This can be implemented again for at least sleeper class and third AC class, so that the needy citizens can take advantage of this facility. However, there are no immediate plans of the Railways to resume the concession.

Kejriwal has surrounded BJP and PM Modi several times in the past.
