Kappan was granted bail by the Supreme Court in September, after which he had to stay in jail in the money laundering case filed against him. The arrest was made from Mathura
In October 2020, a case of brutality came to light from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, in which a girl was gang-raped and badly beaten up, which later led to her death. In this case, the negligence of the UP police came to the fore and it was alleged that the dead body of the girl was deliberately burnt in the middle of the night. After this case, there was an influx of media channels and leaders in Hathras.

In connection with the same rape-murder case, Kerala journalist Siddiqui Kappan also left for Hathras, but the police stopped his car near Mathura and he was arrested. During this, the people present with Siddiqui were also arrested by the police. Police said that Siddiqui Kappan’s wires are connected to the controversial organization PFI and he was going under the conspiracy to spread the Hathras riots.

Under which sections the case was registered
After the arrest, a case was registered against journalist Siddiqui Kappan under several serious sections. Siddique Kappan and others were booked under sections 17 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), section 124A (sedition), section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and section 295A (promoting religious sentiments) of the IPC. A case has been registered under Intentional and malicious act with intent to hurt. Due to which it became very difficult for Kappan to get bail. The police claimed that documents recovered from Kappan’s laptop and from his rented house in Delhi proved that he had deep links with the PFI.

Supreme Court made an important comment while granting bail
In September 2022, Siddiqui Kappan got relief from the Supreme Court and the court ordered him to be granted bail. While granting bail, the then CJI UU Lalit had said, every person has the right to freedom of expression. He is trying to show that the victim needs justice. Will this be a crime in the eyes of the law? The Supreme Court said that even in 2011 there were protests for Nirbhaya at India Gate. Sometimes protest is needed to bring about change. You know that after that there was a change in the laws. These are protests.

What did Siddiqui Kappan say after his release
Serious allegations were leveled against Siddique Kappan like creating an atmosphere against the country and inciting riots, although he always maintained that he was framed. Kappan, who was very emotional after his release from jail, told how he and his family had to struggle in the last two years. Regarding the allegations against him, Kappan said, I was going to Hathras only for reporting. Along with me, my Ola driver was also arrested by the police. I only had two pens, a notepad and a mobile.
