Jan Aushadhi Kendra, a store of cheap medicines on the lines of neighboring Himachal Pradesh, including PGI, will open in the Civil Hospital of Jalandhar, Punjab. In this center generic medicines as well as medicines from Standard House will also be available at affordable rates. The Rogi Kalyan Samiti has decided to open this shop inside the Civil Hospital itself.

The proposal was approved in the meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Committee held on Wednesday to provide generic and standard house medicines at affordable rates by opening Jan Aushadhi Kendras under the Central Government’s scheme in the Civil Hospital.

During the meeting of Rogi Kalyan Samiti in the District Administrative Complex, Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora while praising the decision of opening Jan Aushadhi Store in Civil Hospital said that with this initiative people will not be forced to buy expensive medicines. The residents of the city will get a big relief by getting generic and standard house medicines at affordable rates.

Assuring the committee of cooperation, the MLA said that all possible help would be extended to open Jan Aushadhi Store in Civil Hospital so that this facility could be made available to the people at the earliest. Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh said that Rogi Kalyan Samiti has been constituted for the welfare of hospitalized patients, under which the amount received should be spent only for the welfare of needy patients. During the meeting, it was decided to install signage in the hospital for the convenience of the people especially the patients, as well as beautify the park and entrance of the hospital.

In the meeting, it was also approved to further increase the seating arrangement for the people coming to the Maternal-Child Health Center of the Civil Hospital. Giving information during the meeting, Civil Surgeon Dr. Raman Sharma informed that the work of installing CCTV cameras in Parent-Child Health Center is going on, which will be completed soon.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (h) Major Amit Sareen, Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajiv Sharma and other members of the committee were present on the occasion. De-addiction centers and rehabilitation centers were also reviewed. During the meeting of the Governing Body of District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Committee, MLA Raman Arora and Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh said at the de-addiction centers, rehabilitation centers that these centers are proving to be very helpful in bringing about a change in the lives of drug addicts. He said that the treatment being provided through these centers is helping the affected people in de-addiction centres.

Meanwhile, the Civil Surgeon said that 26 new Outpatient OPOD Assisted Treatment (OT) centers have been established in the district, while 11 centers are already functional. Free treatment facility is being provided to 16820 drug addicts by registering them in oat centers. Apart from this, a 50-bed drug de-addiction center at Civil Hospital Jalandhar and a 10-bed drug de-addiction center at Community Health Center Nurmahal and a rehabilitation center at village Shekhe are also running. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also agreed to the demand of security guards and ward attendants in the rehabilitation centres.
