Iran Hijab Row: The whole of Iran is burning in the fire of protest against Hijab. After the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody, at least 92 people have died so far in the protests that started after Mahsa’s death. In media reports, this figure has been presented citing Norway’s Iran Human Rights (IHR) NGO.
Abu Dhabi’s National News quoted Mahmoud Amiri Moghaddam, director of the IHR, as saying that the international community has an obligation to investigate this crime and prevent further such crimes in the Islamic Republic. The protests, which started after the death of Mahsa Amini on 16 September, have now entered the third week. According to National News, there was a massive rally and strike in the Kurdish area of the country on Saturday.
Biggest protest since the year 2019
The protests in Iran following the custodial death of Mahsa Amini of Kurdistan in Moral Police are the biggest protests since the year 2019. Dozens of people have died in this protest. The death of 83 people has been confirmed in this protest. Protests against Amini’s death have been seen not only in Iran but in London, Rome, Madrid and many western countries.
Violent clash between protesters and police
Violent clashes were witnessed between protesters and police in southeastern Iran. According to a report by Voice of America (VOA), this clash took place when people of the Sunni community in Iran left the prayers at the Makki Mosque. People who came to offer Namaz participated in the protest against the government at the nearby police station and pelted stones. In response, the police opened fire.
