All the leaders reached the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on the morning of 17 October for the meeting of the recently constituted Central Election Committee (CEC) by the BJP high command. The meeting started at 10.30 am under the chairmanship of Himachal BJP President Suresh Kashyap. In this meeting, Suresh Kashyap’s national vice president and Himachal election in-charge Saudan Singh sat on one side and CM Jairam sat on the other side.

Former CM Premkumar Dhumal sat next to CM Jairam. On the other side of Dhumal was the chair of BJP’s Himachal Pradesh in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna and co-in-charge Sanjay Tandon. His son and Union Minister Anurag Thakur was present right in front of Dhumal on the other side of the table.

Saudan Singh said – the decision of Dhumal will be taken directly by the Parliamentary Board

As soon as the discussion on possible candidates started in the meeting, Saudan Singh said that Dhumal is a senior leader, so there will be no discussion in this meeting regarding his candidature. Another meeting led by Nadda at 8 pm

After the CEC meeting of the BJP was over, another meeting started on the same night at the BJP headquarters in which the situation arising out of Dhumal’s announcement of not contesting the elections was discussed. The meeting started at 8.00 pm and lasted till 2.00 pm. BJP national president JP Nadda also attended this meeting. It was decided in this meeting that if Dhumal sticks to his decision, then whose name he gives from Sujanpur seat of Hamirpur district, the same will be made the candidate.

Next day also meeting in small group

In this meeting that ended late night with Nadda, it was finalized that Dhumal himself would not contest the elections. Who will come in his place? Meetings continued in small groups since Tuesday morning to discuss this. After this, around 9.30 pm, a meeting of the Parliamentary Board started under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda, which lasted for a long time. After this, at around 8.30 am on Wednesday morning, the candidates were announced by the BJP for 62 out of 68 seats in Himachal.
