India-Japan 2+2 ministerial talks in Tokyo, know what happened between the two countries


India-Japan Ministerial Dialogue: India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are on a visit to Japan. Rajnath Singh and S Jaishankar held ministerial level 2+2 talks with their counterparts in Tokyo. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada in Tokyo today, the Defense Ministry said. The two ministers reviewed various aspects of bilateral defense cooperation as well as regional affairs.

According to the Defense Ministry, the leaders of the two countries acknowledged the importance of the India-Japan defense partnership and the important role it plays in ensuring a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.

During delegation-level talks in Tokyo, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted that the growing complexities in India-Japan bilateral defense exercises are a testimony to the deepening of defense cooperation between the two countries. The ministers expressed their commitment to continue bilateral and multilateral exercises including the exercises ‘Dharma Guardian’, ‘JIMEX’ and ‘Malabar’.

The Defense Ministry said that the leaders of the two countries welcomed the conduct of the Mutual Provision of Supply and Services Agreement during Exercise ‘MILAN’ (MILAN) in March this year. Both the ministers agreed that the early conduct of the combat exercise will lead to greater cooperation between the air forces of the two countries.

Emphasis on expansion of defense equipment and technical cooperation

Along with this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the need to expand the scope of partnership in the field of defense equipment and technical cooperation. He invited Japanese industries to invest in India’s defense corridors where there is a conducive environment for the development of the defense industry created by the government.
