West Bengal Murder: The dead body of Faizan Ahmed, a student studying at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur) of Paschim Medinipur in West Bengal, was found on October 14, 2022 in the hostel room. Now an FIR has been registered in this matter at Kharagpur Town Police Station. According to which, the police probing the ragging complaint filed by the deceased IIT Kharagpur student Faizan has accused five students and two employees of criminal intimidation and destruction of evidence. Let us tell you that Faizan, originally a resident of Tinsukia in Assam, was studying in the third year of mechanical engineering at IIT Kharagpur.
Accused of deleting Facebook post
Paschim Medinipur Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar told that investigation has been started in the matter. Four of the five students have been accused of ragging, the fifth student Faizan had died. A student has been accused of being instrumental in the removal of a Facebook post in which some IIT students allegedly said that Faizan was abused for refusing to participate in ragging in a hostel. This student called the admin of the page and asked him to remove the post which gave detailed information about Faizan’s ragging.
Case registered on these sections
The police have accused the then warden and assistant warden of RP Hall of Residence of ‘knowing about ragging but not informing the police about it’. IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offense or giving false information to screen offender), 188 (public servant) in the FIR registered against five IIT students and two employees Disobedience to an order given by ) and 34 (common intention) have been mentioned.
Faizan’s family filed a petition
Faizan’s family has filed a writ petition in the Calcutta High Court, alleging that he was murdered by senior students and terming the assimilation program as a ‘glorified version of mass ragging’.
