Delhi News: In many districts of Delhi, the process of challaning Rs 500 for not applying masks has been stopped and is not being implemented strictly in many places. Officials said on Tuesday that the order regarding the mandatory wearing of masks has not been formally withdrawn yet.
Explain that in view of the Kovid-19 epidemic, it was made mandatory to apply masks in public places and an order was issued to impose a fine of Rs 500 for not wearing them. In the meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), it was decided that in view of the decrease in the cases of Kovid-19, wearing of masks should not be made mandatory from 30 September.

“During the meeting, the Chief Secretary informed the DDMA that the government had issued an order imposing a fine of Rs 500 against those not wearing masks in public places using the provisions of the Epidemic Act 1897,” a revenue department official said. The period of the order expired on 30 September. Only clarification is awaited whether the order will be extended or not.” Another revenue official said that the order to do away with the mandatory wearing of masks will be issued by the health department and the related file is “in process”.
DDMA meeting under the chairmanship of Lt Governor
Officials said that challaning is being done in some districts and has been stopped in other districts. Officials are focusing more on spreading awareness. The South West district official said, “Since the cases of Kovid-19 have come down. Therefore, the number of challans has also reduced for not applying the mask. This is being complied with in densely populated areas and the number of challans there is also less. There are “practical problems” in the implementation of the verdict and he insisted on relaxing the rules.
The meeting was presided over by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also present. It was agreed in the meeting that wearing a mask is helpful for Kovid-19 friendly behavior, but the decision to make it mandatory will not be extended beyond 30 September. According to the minutes of the meeting, the DDMA agreed to withdraw the order imposing a fine of Rs 500 against those who do not wear masks in public places after 30 September.
