‘If a person is sexually harmed, he will commit suicide, not wait for the day when people spit on him. ,
These are the words of Jhuma Verma. Her husband, Mahatma Gandhi Institute director and builder Raju Verma, shot himself on October 1. Treatment went on for 28 days in Jabalpur Medical College, but could not be saved. Jhuma alleges that the husband was upset with the harassment of Baliram Shah and his group living in the civil line. He was so fed up that he locked himself in the room and shot himself.

Baliram Shah lives in flat no- 305. He came to us as a customer for the first time. She was sold a flat in Delight Apartments by my husband Raju Verma. When she told her husband about lack of money, then the husband had sold her flat at a low rate. The husband knew about Baliram’s financial condition, which was the reason why he handed over the flat to him even after taking less money. Baliram shifted to the flat, after that gradually formed a society of his own and became the self-proclaimed president of that society.
My husband had taken permission in the apartment up to 7 storeys. They had built two blocks on the 7th floor. Baliram had an eye on these blocks. To get this, he took some women of Multi with him. After this she started threatening her husband. The husband repeatedly complained about this to the Civil Line Police. The police also acted as a mere formality. Due to lack of concrete action, Baliram’s spirits became so high that he came to our office and started threatening us.
Wife Jhuma said- Husband was harassed by Bilram and his group so much that he had to die. He shot himself by locking himself in the room.
Baliram Shah had included four families living in Multi in his group. About 19 families live in the apartment. Out of these 4 people harassed the husband a lot. One of them is a retired person, he also used to go to the municipal corporation, sometimes the court and sometimes the commissioner’s office with the complaint of his husband. I don’t know what their thinking was, but these people were constantly harassing my husband.
Jhuma said- Husband had told his advocate friend that I have become very upset with Baliram. Get me rid of it, otherwise come to Gwarighat cremation ground to meet me.
Baliram and his group had been wanting that the husband should say something to them – then he should file a case of ST / SC. My husband was a respectable person. He also had good reputation in the society, which was the reason why he never responded even after listening to these people. Baliram used to always threaten him that you will be implicated in the name of sexual harassment. In such a situation the man will die and not wait for the day that the whole city will spit on him. My husband was so upset with these people that he started sharing every problem with his daughter.

The day before he shot himself, he had told his friend advocate Umesh Tripathi that I have become very upset with Baliram. Get me rid of this, otherwise come to Gwarighat cremation ground to meet me. The day he shot himself, we had no idea that he was going to do something like this.
On October 1, the builder Verma went to his room in the morning and after some time the sound of firing was heard. Treatment went on for 28 days at Jabalpur Medical College.
What happened that day…
Jhuma Verma told- We were together till 7.15 am on the day of the incident on 1 October. The daughter was sleeping in the upstairs room. I asked him – will you drink tea, but he refused. He took his mobile and went to the room and while leaving said – leave me alone for some time. He closed the door of the room from inside. The sound was heard at 7.25. Hearing the sound, we all ran towards the room along with the servants of the house. We tried to open the door. When he did not open, peeping through the window, he was covered in blood. After this, breaking the door, he was brought to the medical super specialist, where he was shifted to the ventilator. He was admitted for 28 days.
Wife Jhuma told that 10 days after the incident, the brother was taking out the check book kept in the cupboard, when the suicide note was found in the envelope.
About 10 days after the incident, I told my brother – some check books are kept at home, which he should keep with him. While the brother was searching the checkbook in the cupboard, he found an envelope. When I opened the envelope, I saw a suicide note written in it, in which the torture of Baliram Shah was mentioned.
Baliram Shah had said in his clarification – We had complained about the lack of facilities in the apartment. I don’t know why he shot himself.
I had no personal enmity with Verma: Baliram

We had complained to RERA and Municipal Corporation regarding this. Later, the matter went to court, from where Raju Verma did not get any relief. The points about which irregularities are being talked about in the apartment are correct. Why did Verma shoot himself, I don’t know. I didn’t have any personal enmity with him.
Suicide note sent for investigation
The Civil Line Police Station is investigating the death of builder Verma. Civil line station in-charge Ramesh Kaurav says that the suicide note has been sent for investigation. Action will be taken as soon as the report is received.
