The Center has asked states and Union Territories to conduct mock drills in all COVID-19 hospitals as a precautionary measure amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in some countries.Gujarat Health Minister Hrishikesh Patel said that Gujarat has launched a comprehensive Prepared a plan and reviewed the preparedness of the existing health infrastructure in case of any eventuality on the pandemic front.
The minister told reporters that a new order has been placed to get 12 lakh doses of Covaxin and Covishield vaccines. Patel reviewed the preparedness at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital and said that a mock drill was conducted in health facilities across Gujarat, including Community Health Centers (CHCs), Medical Colleges and Hospitals, District and Sub-District Hospitals, where COVID-19 cases have been reported. Health infrastructure has been built to cope.
Patel said, “Today, we have one lakh five thousand beds which can be converted immediately (for the use of Kovid-19 patients). Then we have 15,000 ventilators and the same number of ICUs available. If we need a new arrangement after exhausting the available ones, we will make it as per the requirement.” He said that the state had stopped ordering anti-covid vaccine doses after the enthusiasm of people to take booster doses decreased. The state has once again ordered 12 lakh doses of Covishield and Covaxin from the Center and will start a fresh campaign for precautionary doses.
In Hyderabad, Dr. Reddy said that the state is prepared to deal with the situation of Kovid-19. Talking to reporters, Reddy said that all teaching, private, district level, regional and community hospitals in the state conducted a Covid mock drill to check the infrastructure and preparedness to combat it in case of any surge in coronavirus cases. He said, “Covid cases in Telangana are hardly registered in the unit. There are no admissions in the hospital. nothing to worry about. But we have to take precautions. We are fully prepared to deal with any situation. The state has not reported any case of BF.7 pattern.” In response to a question, the official said that the state has created more than 28,000 oxygen beds till the second wave of Kovid-19 pandemic and later this number has increased. According to him, almost all major hospitals have oxygen tanks.
