Both of them are sniffer dogs of NDRF. The names are Honey and Rambo. Sent to Turkey to find earthquake victims.

The Indian government has sent its best-trained dogs to search for people buried under the debris of buildings that collapsed in Turkey. Their names are Honey and Rambo. Both of them are part of the 8th battalion of NDRF in Ghaziabad. For the first time, he has been sent to Turkey on an international level operation.

Both these search dogs also find people buried in debris 10 to 12 feet below. Especially for such disasters, NDRF had prepared both these dogs after training them for one and a half years.

Both these sniffer dogs were sent in the first C-17 Globemaster that went to Turkey from Hindon airbase.

In December-2016, 28 dogs from 12 battalions across the country had come to the 8th battalion of NDRF, Ghaziabad. They were trained for one and a half years and then there was an examination. Among the 15 out of 28 dogs that passed the test, there were also Labras species Honey and Rambo. Both of them had found the live victim in their examination. After this they were included in the NDRF fleet.

NDRF spokesperson Naresh Chauhan said, Honey and Rambo have been sent to Turkey by Indian Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster aircraft. There he along with the 101-member team of NDRF will play an important role in evacuating the people buried under the debris. Their handlers have also gone with both the dogs.

Many lives were saved in Shahberi-Mussoorie
In July-2018, two buildings collapsed simultaneously in Shahberi, Greater Noida. Many people were killed in this and a large number of people were buried under the debris. These two dogs of NDRF had given new life to many people by evacuating them safely. A few days after Shahberi, a four-storey building collapsed in Ghaziabad’s Mussoorie. In this operation too, sniffer dogs Honey and Rambo saved many lives.

The biggest dog training center is in Tekanpur, Gwalior.
The biggest center for training sniffer dogs is in Tekanpur located in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. BSF operates this training center. Apart from military, para military, police sniffer dogs of many states are also trained here. These trained sniffer dogs are sent to most of the military-para military forces across the country. Not only this, dogs from Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Ghana, Mauritius and Sri Lanka also take training at Tekanpur centre.

Help reached Turkey-Syria in five planes from India so far

  1. The first 51-member team of NDRF 8th Battalion took off from Hindon airbase at 3 am on February 6 in Ghaziabad in an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster. In this, drill machines of NDRF, all the equipment used for earthquake rescue, two dog squads have been sent.
  2. The second C-17 Globemaster took off from Ghaziabad Hindon airbase at 12:30 pm on 7th February. In this, 50 jawans of Kolkata-based NDRF battalion went. Search dogs, rescue equipments, vehicles etc. have been sent along with them.
  3. A 45-member medical team of the Indian Army from Agra 60 Para Field Hospital went to Turkey in a special Air Force aircraft on the morning of February 7. Ventilators, X-ray machines, oxygen generator plants, cardiac monitors and 30 assembled beds were sent in this aircraft.
  4. 54 medical experts from Agra 60 Para Field Hospital were sent to Turkey by the fourth C-17 Globemaster aircraft. All kinds of medical experts, doctors, specialists are present in this team so that they can treat the earthquake victims.
  5. Indian Air Force aircraft C-130 has reached Syria with six tonnes of emergency relief material. It contains life saving medicines and emergency medical items.

The ambassador said – the only true friend who is useful in need
Turkish Ambassador to India Firat Sunel has expressed his gratitude for the Indian government’s offer of assistance. He tweeted on Tuesday saying – ‘A friend who comes in handy in times of need is a true friend’.
