Chandigarh Police and Public Prosecutor have failed to prove a case of theft of heritage furniture of Chandigarh in court. All the 6 accused in the case have been acquitted by the district court. In the present case, Sector 3 police station had registered a case in the year 2016. Sections of trespassing, theft, destruction of evidence, recovery and criminal conspiracy were imposed in the case.

The SIT was formed to investigate under the supervision of the then DSP (Central) Satish Kumar. Let us tell you that there have been many incidents of heritage furniture being secretly exported abroad from Chandigarh and auctioned it in foreign auctions. A demand has been made to the Central Government to stop the auction.

Among the accused who were acquitted by the court, Sunil Kumar (33), Anil Kumar (25) and Rajesh Kumar (32) of Sector 25, Fakir Chand (46) of Kansal were arrested. At the same time, a woman named Sakeela and Usha alias Sweety of Sector 25 had surrendered in the court, all of them were out on bail. Yadav, advocate for Sunil, Anil and Rajesh, accused in the case, told that the police implicated innocent people to rob applause in the heritage furniture theft case while the real accused were someone else. At the same time, during cross examination, the complainant had said that no recovery was made in front of him and the police had only got the goods recovered from him. Besides, no independent witness was placed in the case. At the same time, there was also a difference of time regarding the incident. At the same time, recovery was also under doubt.

Vinod Kumar, Junior Assistant, Government College of Arts, Sector 10, was the complainant in the case. At night from 12 to 9 in the morning, a watchman named Ajit Singh was on duty in the college. On January 18, 2016, at 11 pm, he reached the place where the heritage furniture used to be kept. He reached there again at 5.30 am on 19th January and found that the lock of the godown was broken. On checking the heritage furniture, he found that 15 heritage sofa chairs and one heritage wooden table were missing. Somebody stole it.

During the investigation of the case, the police arrested Sunil, Anil, Rajesh and Fakir Chand. According to the police claim, 10 prized heritage sofa chairs and 2 auto rickshaws involved in the incident were recovered from them after taking their remand for 4 days. According to the police, the accused used to do scrap work and were experts in hiding stolen goods. In the case, a woman named Sakeela and Usha alias Sweety of Sector 25 had surrendered in the court. By taking their remand of 1 day, the police had recovered 3 broken locks and chains. Its recovery was shown from the drain of Leisure Valley, Sector 10. The accused were claimed to have recovered five more heritage sofa chairs from the forested area of ​​Nahan (Himachal Pradesh) by taking one more day’s remand.
