On March 23, Surat Court Judge Harish Verma sentenced him to two years in the defamation case.

Hearing will be held today on the petition challenging the promotion of Judge Harish Verma, who sentenced Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case. The promotion of 68 judges, including Surat court judge Harish Verma, has been challenged. Actually, these judges have been promoted on the basis of 65% quota rule, which has been challenged by two officers of the senior civil judge cadre. Supreme Court Justice MR Shah will hear the case.

The petitioners have claimed that there are several judges who have scored higher marks in the examination for promotion. Still he was not selected. Rather, the candidate who scored less than them was promoted.

Promotion list released on March 10, all judges are taking training
The judges who got the promotion have been posted at the new place. All of them are currently undergoing training at the Gujarat Judicial Academy. Meanwhile, Ravi Kumar Mehta and Sachin Mehta, judicial officers of the senior civil judge cadre, challenged his promotion. In the petition, he has demanded cancellation of the promotion list issued by the Gujarat High Court on March 10. Apart from this, there has been a demand to cancel the appointments issued by the Gujarat government.

16 November 2022: The High Court released the list of 175 Judicial Officers who qualified the exam.

10 March 2023: Released the list of selected Judicial Officers of Senior Civil Judge.

March 18, 2023: Issued notification for the appointment of 68 judges. In this, Judge H.H. Verma is also included.

Surat Court Judge Harish Verma sentenced Rahul to 2 years imprisonment on 23 March. However, he got bail after 27 minutes. The very next day, Rahul’s membership of Parliament was cancelled. He was a member of the Lok Sabha from Wayanad, Kerala. In 2019, he gave a statement regarding the Modi surname in the assembly of Karnataka. It was said – Why all thieves have Modi as their surname. After this, Gujarat’s BJP MLA Purnesh Modi filed a defamation case against Rahul.
